Vasilopita Baking

The Sweet Bread of Basil
January 25, 2018

- Maria Tschetter -

On Saturday, 1/20/18, great fun was had by multiple generations of ladies as the tradition of Vasilopita baking was celebrated at St. Spyridon’s.  The word Vasilopita is a compound Greek word which means the sweet 'bread of Basil'.  Our community is blessed to have expert Vasilopita bakers, such as Angela Palmer and Nora Makris!  These wonderful ladies taught the Ladies of Philopotochos the tradition of Vasilopita making as we all came together to bake three loaves that will be auctioned off this coming Sunday, 1/28/18.  Funds that are raised from the Vasilopita sale will be donated to St. Basil Academy.
