It all began on June 4, 2017 when the majority of stewards overwhelmingly voted to move forward with the renovation of the narthex & sanctuary of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church. Along with this vote came a price tag of $1.9M to complete the project and a pending bank loan of $1.2M with a $100,000 line of credit. The Financial committee made a strong recommendation to reduce this note to no more than $1M for the financial health of the parish and that’s when the challenge began.
The Renovation Fundraising Committee quickly came together to spearhead this cause and kicked off the Mustard Seed Challenge whose primary goal is to raise a minimum of $200,000 in order to reduce the final bank loan amount. Merely a week later a $50K match was presented to the parish and the committee planned FUNdraising events that would be fun for families and parishioners of all ages. To date, almost $30K has been received towards the Mustard Seed Match and an additional $2,400 has been received from the Laying Our Foundation event where the blessing of St. Spyridon continues to shine down on our parish as it has from the beginning.
