National Strike in Ecuador Hampers our Deliveries June 13-June 30, 2022

We had completed our May food deliveries on Tuesday May 31 and planned the first June delivery to be on June 9th but Baudi, our driver,  had car problems so we made the decision to do a double delivery on June 18th.

However, on Monday June 13th a national strike and protests for the rising prices started. The roads were blocked and public transportation came to a halt. Within the week store shelves were getting low and most of the local small stores where everyone shops for vegetables were bare or the costs had gone up immensely. If you could even find eggs they went from $3.50 for a tray of 36 to $6.50 for the same amount.  There were no fruits or berries whatsoever.

Due to the road blocks we were not able to do a delivery on the 18th as planned, however,  the supplier for Panaghia’s Pantry was able to drive on the beach and bring the dry goods so we could be ready if there was a chance we could go with the food kit aid. No one was working and food was scarce or too expensive for the poor who already struggle from day to day. We needed to help!

Thankfully, one of the roadblocks to the south of us opened up on the 24th so we were able to go to one of the small villages southeast of us. We were able to get more product and we made a food delivery here in Manglaralto on June 28th.

Prayers were answered on June 30th and on July 1st roadblocks were opened.

Team Ecuador is happy to say, Panaghia’s Pantry is now fully back in business to help the many who need and depend on us.

We greatly appreciate all of your continued prayers, financial generosity and moral support!

In Christ,

Yota
