On March 13, 2023 we visited a family receiving Panaghia’s Housing assistance. We took a volunteer with us to translate to make certain the family understood everything.
This is a local family with two little girls, Alise who will be 12 on April 14th and Nana who will soon be 5.
This was very emotional especially for little Alise who, while we were talking sitting outside under the bamboo structure they sleep in tears started rolling down her cheeks and then she was sobbing which opened up her moms emotions and then the rest of us.
When I asked her why she was crying she told us, through sobs, that she always hoped and prayed that someday she would live in a house and finally it was going to happen.
This was something not even her parents knew, it was her own sadness that she kept to herself.
Dad was beyond surprised and willing to do anything he physically can to make this happen for his family.
They have one bamboo room, 12’ x 12’, on stilts with no entrance door, bamboo strips with openings for walls where they sleep, mom and dad on one mattress and the girls on 1 mattress with minimal protection from the elements and insects.
They also store all of their belongings in this room. All of the cooking, eating, relaxing and family time is spent underneath this structure on an open small cement slab. There is an outside toilet and shower that they have to walk to even if it is pouring rain.
Today Vasili and Felix marked the building site and things are starting to move forward. Because of all of your generous donations this family will have a home to call their own and allow their daughters a better childhood.
Their gratitude to God and to all is immense!
I have lost track of how many times they have said thank you!
Their daughter Alise is now Panaghia’s Pantry newest volunteer. She helped portion and went with us on our last delivery which was a triple. She said she wants to help again so we’ll make sure to include her when she can.
Team Ecuador sends you all much gratitude and love for all of your generous gifts and prayers that help so many less fortunate in our area. We have no words for how much we all appreciate Team Loveland and all of you!
Love in Christ,
Yota and Team Ecuador
