The nine member St. Spyridon Project Mexico Team returned on June 26 after successfully building a house in a village just east of Rosarito, Mexico, approximately 20 miles south of San Diego. The team humbly thanks the parishioners of St. Spyridon for their prayers and financial support. Without them, there would have been no team this year.
The week in Mexico was challenging, exhilarating, tiring, humbling, and most of all, tremendously blessed by the Lord. Days 1 and 7 were travel days. On day 2, the first build day, we leveled the foundation, and mixed and poured the concrete foundation and floor. Day 3 saw the walls erected, with chicken wire attached. The roof was started and we put the first coat of stucco on the house on day 4. Our last build day, day 5 of our trip, saw the team finish the stucco and complete waterproofing the roof. A red lime finish was added to the house. The Lord completed our work with a house blessing service served by Fr. Alejandro Sosa Aguilar, parish priest at the Orphanage. For the 4 build days, it was our honor to work with and get to know the house’s new owners - Jorge and his family. Day 6 of our trip was Sunday and provided the team with spiritual (Liturgy) and physical (went to the beach) rest!
St. Spyridon has been sending teams to Project Mexico for many years. Please consider joining the team next year!!!
