Youth MINISTRIES

“When we teach children to be good, to be gentle, to be forgiving, to be generous, we reveal the image of God within them.”

— St. John Chyrsostom

  • Little Angels Playgroup: 0-4

Little Angels Playgroup (LAP) is a cherished ministry for the youngest members of our Saint Spyridon community. LAP meets one or two times a month, usually on weekday mornings, and offers our little ones the opportunity to connect with each other in a nurturing environment. These playgroups are organized at local parks, play areas, fostering early Orthodox friendships and connections for both children and their parents. We also provide opportunities for mothers of little children to come together, offering support and building community among parents. For questions or to get involved, please contact lap@saintspyridon.church. View the calendar to see upcoming dates. Download our Fall 2024 calendar HERE.

  • Hope and Joy: 5-10

Hope and Joy is a ministry for children ages 5-10. This ministry seeks to engage children in the life of our church, as well as give them consistent connection to their peers. Hope and Joy meets periodically on Wednesday evenings in conjunction with our scheduled Wednesday Fellowship nights as well as for various other special events throughout the year. For questions or to get involved, please contact hopeandjoy@saintspyridon.church

  • GOYA: Middle and High School

Our 6th-12th graders meet on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings. The St. Spyridon Mom Group is a welcoming community for mothers of all ages and stages. The group meets at least twice a month and offers a variety of activities, including moms' nights out, coffee with Fr. Evan, and group prayers of the Akathist for children. For questions or to get involved, please contact momsgroup@saintspyridon.church.

  • Vacation Church Camp

Vacation Church Camp at St. Spyridon is a highly anticipated, week-long day camp that offers children a fun and enriching experience. During this week, kids explore life in the Church through crafts, music, lessons, games, and activities. The Camp is usually held during the month of June. • YOUTH ACOLYTES (7-18 Y/O)

Serving at the Holy Altar is a privilege and a beautiful gift to our Lord. Boys ages 7-18 are encouraged to join the altar serving team as acolytes during Sunday morning Services, Lent, and Holy Week. Acolytes assist the clergy by lighting candles, preparing incense, and participating in processions. This ministry offers a lifelong opportunity to serve the Church, with some even feeling called to pursue the priesthood or diaconate. Acolytes are trained by clergy and experienced adult acolytes to perform their duties with competence, reverence, and prayerfulness. Serving requires dedication, discipline, and a deep respect for the beauty of our worship. For questions or to get involved, please contact altarservice@saintspyridon.church.

  • MYRHBEARING GIRLS (4-14 Y/O)

All girls between the ages of 4 and 14 are invited to participate as Myrrh Bearers on Holy Friday evening. Girls younger than 4 may also participate in a limited capacity. This role provides a wonderful opportunity for the girls in our church to express their love for Christ by taking part in the services. We have one mandatory practice each year, typically following Divine Liturgy on the Saturday of Lazarus, along with 1 or 2 additional practices leading up to Holy Week. For the Holy Friday Evening service, the girls should wear a white dress and bring a small basket for holding flower petals. Each year, we organize a Myrrh Bearers Dress Exchange, encouraging parishioners to donate clean, ready-to-wear white dresses for others to use. We request that all items be returned after Pascha, cleaned, pressed, and prepared for the following year. For questions or to get involved, please contact myrhbearinggirls@saintspyridon.church.
