An ancient path of healing

for people in a modern world

A new commandment

"A new commandment I give to you, that you love on another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."

-John 13.34

It has been said that love requires another. That love can only exist within a communion of persons. Our role on this earth is to fashion a community of love. To demonstrate our love for one another as we struggle along the path to become like Christ.

Saint Spyridon is a community of people seeking transformation. It is our hope that your visit begins to foster a building of a relationship of love with our community and our Lord Jesus Christ. We would be honored to have you join us in worship and invite you to explore the information on this site in the hope of better understanding our Orthodox community and the many wonderful ministries we endeavor to pursue.

When you visit, we welcome you to join us in fellowship after the Sunday morning service.

Church Services

The Orthodox Church has a rich liturgical life. The hymns of the service are rooted in the psalms and are meant to reinforce the personhood of Jesus Christ and His salvific work. The services are both instructive and participatory. Members of the community and visitors are encouraged to follow along in the texts, pray along with the service, and sing the hymns together. The services listed are examples of the most important in the daily life of the Orthodox Church.

  • The Liturgy is a participation in the divine works of God. At the center of the service is the Eucharist in which the people partake in the body and Blood of Jesus Christ. The service is divided into two parts: the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Faithful. The Liturgy of the Word involves the singing of hymns reinforcing the personhood of Jesus Christ as the Only-Begotten Son of God, the reading of scripture, and the homily. The Liturgy of the Faithful focuses on the imminence of Jesus Christ and His presence in the Eucharist of which the community of the faithful partake at the conclusion of the service. Divine Liturgy takes place Sundays at 9:30 and generally once per week on a weekday. View our CALENDAR for upcoming Liturgy dates and times.

  • Vespers is an evening prayer service that marks the beginning of the liturgical day. As the day fades to night, we remember that Jesus Christ, the true light, illumines all people.

  • Orthros is a morning service that contemplates the coming of the light to fill the darkness. It is filled with rich and changing hymnography that celebrates the victory of Christ over death.

Ministries

From our Youth and Rooted Campus ministries to our Mission trips and Philoptochos (friends of the poor), St. Spyridon has something for all ages and abilities to help serve.

Iconography

Through the incarnation, all matter is sanctified and points us to our Creator, in whose image we are fashioned. The Church teaches us that iconography is an important means of functioning within this reality.

classes

Although the journey of a Christian life begins with Grace and repentance, education is a means for spiritual growth, especially in our modern era. Many opportunities exist for learning more about the Orthodox Faith at St. Spyridon.

sacraments

Although God is "present in all places and filling all things,” we most readily encounter His presence in the Mysteries of the Church, also known as Sacraments. The most commonly known of these are the Holy Eucharist, Baptism & Chrismation, Confession, and Marriage.

youth

We have a thriving youth culture with many young families, and a myriad of ways for youth to connect with each other, our community, and grow in Christ.
